Domestic and International Pet Health Certificates
for Pet Travel

Planning a trip with your pet? You may need a health certificate before departure. These certificates confirm that your pet has been examined by a veterinarian and meets the health requirements for travel.

Coats Veterinary Hospital has USDA accredited veterinarians that are accredited to sign health certificates required for continental (within the United States) and international travel with pets.

Ready to Travel? (or Getting Ready to Travel)

Before scheduling a health certificate appointment, please review your destination’s travel requirements and complete our travel form. This helps our veterinary team determine what documentation your pet will need.

Travel requirements can vary widely depending on your destination, airline, and travel timeline, so please have this information ready. Completing the required forms ahead of time will help ensure your pet’s documentation can be completed before your trip.

If you plan on traveling with your pet we encourage you to review travel requirements on the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) website.

Travel Certificates for Your Pet

The type of certificate required depends on where your pet is traveling:

  • Interstate Travel (Continental U.S.)— Health certificates for travel within the continental United States start at $150.
  • International Travel—Health certificates for international travel start at $350. International travel typically requires additional documentation, so planning ahead is especially important.
