Cat-Focused Care for Cats
in Rocky Mount, NC

Cats are unique patients, and their veterinary care should reflect that. At Coats Veterinary Hospital, we take a thoughtful approach to feline medicine that focuses on recognizing subtle signs of illness, reducing stress during visits, and helping your cat stay healthy throughout every stage of life.

Cats often hide pain, illness, and injury in ways that are difficult to see at home. Small changes in behavior, appetite, or routine may be the first signs that something isn’t right. Regular wellness visits allow us to track your cat’s health over time and identify concerns earlier.

Why Veterinary Care Matters for Cats

Cats age just as quickly as dogs, and many common conditions begin to develop in middle age. Kidney disease, dental disease, and hyperthyroidism are often first detected during routine veterinary exams.

Physical exams, bloodwork, and other diagnostics allow our veterinarians to evaluate your cat’s health more thoroughly and monitor changes that may not be visible on the surface.

A Calmer Veterinary Experience

Helping cats feel safe and comfortable during veterinary visits is an important part of feline care. Our team focuses on creating a low-stress environment designed specifically with cats in mind.

This includes:

  • A dedicated cat exam room designed for a quieter experience
  • Feliway diffusers and sprays to promote calm behavior
  • Soft towels and warm surfaces to help cats feel secure
  • Treats, including favorites like marshmallow fluff, to create positive experiences

Our team also continues to pursue education focused on feline medicine and behavior so we can better understand what cats need during veterinary visits.

Helping Your Cat Get to the Vet

Getting your cat to the vet is usually the hardest part of the visit. As a Ceva Calm Clinic, we will make sure our space is inviting, while also offering simple strategies to help reduce stress getting here.

Helpful tools may include:

  • A comfortable carrier, such as a Sleepypod-style carrier
  • Feliway spray or diffusers before travel
  • Familiar bedding or soft Sherpa towels inside the carrier

These small steps can make veterinary visits easier and help create more positive experiences over time.

When Extra Support Is Needed

Some cats may benefit from additional support during veterinary visits. In these cases, our veterinarians may recommend medications such as Bonqat or gabapentin to help reduce anxiety and make the visit more comfortable.

If needed, injectable medications can also be used to help cats relax during certain procedures.

Supporting Your Cat’s Long-Term Health

Our goal is to make veterinary care easier for both you and your cat. By focusing on comfort, behavior, and early detection, we can help your cat stay healthy and receive the care they need throughout their life.

At Coats Veterinary Hospital, we also use vaccines designed specifically for cats, including Purevax, which are formulated without certain adjuvants and are designed to support feline vaccine safety.
