What Dogs Need

Your pet needs an annual comprehensive physical exam.  In addition, we will examine all pets before they receive a vaccination.  An exam my be the most important component of an office visit, because the veterinarian can examine your pet and discuss any medical problems.
bullet Distemper Vaccine:  This annual vaccination helps protect your dog from four debilitating diseases - distemper, hepatitis, leptosporosis, and parainfluenza.  Many dogs are exposed to these potentially deadly diseases during their lifetime.
bullet Parvovirus Vaccine:  This canine intestinal viral infection results in bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting and extreme depression.  It is highly contagious and life-threatening.
bullet Bordetella Vaccine:  This annual vaccination prevents tracheobronchitis (kennel cough), a highly contagious bacterium that causes a dry hacking cough that can persist for several weeks.
bullet Rabies Vaccine:  This vaccination is required by the state government.  Vaccinations help prevent dogs from transmitting this deadly disease to people.
bullet Fecal/Stool Analysis:  We recommend a semi-annual stool test to detect intestinal parasites that threaten your pet's health.  Regular microscopic examination of your pet's stool provides early detection and treatment.
bullet Heartworm Test:  Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes and are fatal if untreated.  This simple test done in our hospital detects these parasites in your dog's blood.  Preventive medication is available in daily or monthly form to be given year-round.
bullet Geriatric Blood Profile:  We recommend an annual blood workup and urinalysis on dogs 6 years and older to help detect problems associated with aging (kidney, liver, heart or dental disease).  Early detection in conjunction with proper treatment and diet can lengthen and improve the quality of your pet's life.  It is a simple procedure requiring blood and urine samples obtained during an office call.
bullet Dental Care:  Tartar accumulation and gum inflammation affect most pets, and periodical disease may lead to infection of the liver, kidneys, and heart.  Prevent disease with regular dental care, beginning at home by brushing or cleaning your pet's teeth with animal toothpaste or oral cleansing products.  We recommend regular ultrasonic teeth cleaning and polishing under anesthesia.
